WPNA MLK Service Project

Happy New Year! We hope you all had a wonderful holiday break! As we kick-off 2015 we will be sending out communications to you about renewing your WPNA membership (if you haven't already), upcoming WPNA meetings, and planned events.

Up first, we would love to show our support for the community by volunteering on behalf of WPNA for the Decatur MLK Project. Learn more here: http://www.decaturga.com/index.aspx?page=669..

As some additional background, in 1994, Congress designated the Martin Luther King Jr. Federal Holiday as a national day of service, the MLK Day of Service is the only federal holiday observed as a national day of service, "a day on, not a day off". (http://www.nationalservice.gov/special-initiatives/days-service/martin-luther-king-jr-day-service-0). As you may know, this is a major event for Decatur and really demonstrates the essence of our community!

If you can't join us for this event, we hope to coordinate additional volunteer opportunities throughout the year, so stay tuned!

We have enclosed a signup link to allow you to sign up for a shift(s) on January 17th or 18th. We are not sponsoring a specific home in WP and/or in the community, but wanted to try and gather a group of WP neighbors together to volunteer for each shift and give back to the community that gives so much to us!

Volunteers will need to check in at the Solarium in Oakhurst (321 W. Hill Street) 30 minutes before the shift start time. Home/job assignments will be given then. Minimum age to volunteer is 12.

Please click on the link below, signup and add with your name any specific handy skills you may have (carpentry, etc.). Overall, there is a good mix of work to be done, so even if you don't have a specific skill, you are still needed to chip in by cleaning, painting, etc.

We are asking that you signup by Monday, January 12th so that we can then send a summary of planned volunteers by shift to Lee Ann Harvey, who is the community coordinator for Volunteer! Decatur.

Thank you so much for all your support and participation in 2014! We look forward to a great WPNA 2015!

Sincerely,

WPNA Board
