Sunday, Dec. 15 12:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M. - Annual Luminaria and Cocoa Crawl Event


The annual Winnona Park Neighborhood Association Luminaria and Cocoa Crawl Event will be held Sunday, Dec. 15th.

Luminarias will be on sale from 12:00pm until 4:00 pm on Sunday, Dec. 15th in the parking lot off Poplar Street behind Winnona Park Elementary school.

While you're picking up your luminaria, please join or renew your membership in the WP Neighborhood Association. The rate for 2014 is $15 per voting member or $20 for two members in one household. Luminarias are priced at $1 each for WPNA members, and $1.50 each for non-WPNA members.

In the evening, light your luminaries, grab your favorite mug and take a walk around our wonderful neighborhood to enjoy a cup of cocoa and some treats at neighbors houses. The crawl will be from 6:00pm - 8:00pm. The locations of the Cocoa Crawl hosts is below:

General Information

Block parties can happen anytime and are encouraged as well as partially funded by the social committee so if you are interested in hosting a block party, please let us know.

We can always use some help in coordinating social activities so if you are interested in helping out 30 minutes, 1 hour, a new activity, send me an email at your convenience.

Wednesday, Nov. 6, 7 PM - Special Meeting of the Winnona Park Neighborhood Association @ Winnona Park Elementary School


The Winnona Park Neighborhood Association (WPNA) will hold a Special Meeting on Wednesday, November 6th, at 7:00 pm at the Winnona Park Elementary School.

Agenda items will include some WPNA business and also a discussion of the City Schools of Decatur (CSD) proposed rezoning. The WPNA will offer an opportunity at the meeting for presentation of up-to-date and accurate information from the CSD / Zoning Commission. Opportunity will also be given for presentation by WP neighbors who wish to make recommendations / changes to the proposed zoning. After the presentations, WPNA members will have the opportunity to make motions and to vote should there be a desire to have the Association take an official stance of any kind.

You must be a WPNA member to vote at the meeting.

Membership Chair Seegar Swanson will be present to confirm your membership status and give non-members the opportunity to join. Please plan to arrive early to check-in and/or join. Please share this information with WP neighbors who may not be on our WP list-serves. Thank you.

Wednesday, Sept. 4, 8 PM - Winnona Park Neighborhood Association Board Meeting

Pursuant to Article V, Section 5.2 of the Winnona Park Neighborhood Association, Inc., please be advised:
The WPNA Board will meet on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 8:00 p.m. at MAR Restaurant on Howard Avenue to discuss upcoming events, ongoing business, and upcoming schedule(s) for Community Meetings. Our meetings are open to the public.

Sunday, Sept. 22, 4-7 PM, - WPNA Annual Fall Picnic - Winnona Park Field

BBQ dinner (with veggie options), neighborhood band, cake walk and fun for everyone! $7 for adults and $4 for kids 5-10 years, kids under 5 are free Reservations required: RSVP to social@winnonapark.org

Community Meeting - Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 7:00 P.M.

A Winnona Park community meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 9th, at 7:00 p.m. at the Decatur Active Living (DAL) facility located at 231 Sycamore Street. The meeting will be in Studios A and B.

Sgt. Jennifer Ross with the City of Decatur Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit will be on-hand to present accurate and up-to-date information regarding the recent break-ins and burglaries in the WP and surrounding areas. Sgt. Ross will answer questions and also provide safety tips and advice to our residents. In the interim, please see the attached "Community Alert" bulletin issued by Chief Booker and his staff. Any questions regarding the attached information and recent criminal activity in our area will be answered at the community meeting.

Please plan to be on time as we anticipate the exchange of much information as well as many questions from residents. As time allows, we would like to have a resident safety prevention professonal, Duncan Cottrell, provide information and to answer safety prevention questions. Mr. Cottrell has provided helpful information on the list-serves regarding safety prevention. Block Party - Derrydown Way - April 27th

Saturday, April 27th, the 200 Block of Derrydown Way will host a block party from 4PM to 9 PM. All Winnona Parkers are invited. There will be games, activities for children & general neighborly merriment. Please bring food/drink to share with others. Beer provided.

WPNA ANNUAL YARD SALE: Saturday, May 11th, 8:30 am - 3:00 pm

Want to sell items not going to the super trash day or being donated? Then get ready to sell, sell, sell! WPNA will cover advertising to the AJC and local neighborhood papers and list-serves. And, WPNA will cover costs of printing maps of each home participating in the yard sale, along with a highlighted list of some of the items offered at each sale! This annual event generates lots of traffic and good sales. Many professional yard sale buyers look for this event each year. So, this is a good time to host your yard sale and make the most of the high-volume traffic. This event is FREE for WPNA members and $5.00 for non-members. Again, this cost covers advertising and costs of maps! A great value! It's not too late to join the WPNA if you are interested. For details, please go to: http://www.winnonapark.org/dues.htm.
We are in great need of volunteers for the following: Please contact Cherylann at president@winnonapark.org if you can help with any of these volunteer opportunities. Thank you!.

  1. Emails
    • Send out email to both listserves with date and ask for those who want to participate.
    • Gather participant info (name/address/short list of items for sale.)

  2. Ads
    • Coordinate ads to come out the week of sale. Craigslist, AJC online, Decatur neighborhood listserves (Oakhurst, Clairmont Heights, Glenwood, etc.). We can provide all the info, we just need someone to write a short ad and send it out.

    • Maps
      • Generate map using Google maps.
      • Distribute maps to participating homes.

    • Place Signs
      • On the Friday afternoon before the sale, place signs at major intersections around neighborhood.

March 9, 2013, 6 P.M. - 9 P.M - WPNA Winter Social

Join us for the Winnona Park Neighborhood Association Winter Social - HOT, HOT, HOT!

What: HOT dogs, HOT cocoa and a HOT fire (or two)
When: Sat., March 9th from 6-9 pm
Where: Poplar Circle behind the playground
We plan to have the road closed to traffic so grab your family and bring a blanket or some chairs and come on out to celebrate the end of winter/beginning of spring! We will have other light snacks to accompany the hot dogs but feel free to bring your own sides and alcoholic beverages.
